Steven Stark tried building a lawn and garden business on his own before looking at a Jim's franchise. It lasted three days.
One day of doorknocking. Two days of Facebook. That was enough to convince him going independent is a race to the bottom.
Steven is 25, from Quakers Hill in Western Sydney, and he already knows the work.
He has spent years as an employee for another Jim's franchisee doing garden cleaning.
His brother has been running his own Jim's franchise for close to 12 months.
His brother's best friend runs one too. So when Steven decided he wanted to work for himself, he did not guess. He researched.
He asked his brother for updates every month for a year. He listened to the podcasts.
He spoke to franchisees in his area. He did a trial day out on the tools.
Then he called his franchisor Chris and asked around 50 questions before putting down a deposit. Chris eventually asked if he was actually going to do it.
